World Championship Day 3 Evening Preview

Michael van Gerwen opens his World Championship account tonight to round off the third day.

Before that we see Toni Alcinas play Craig Ross. Spaniard, Alcinas has established himself on the pro tour this season and has generally played well. Last year he made the last 16 of the World Championship,so he does have some form. Little is known about Craig Ross, but a little luck saw him qualify. He finished runner-up to Tahuna Irwin, winner of the DPNZ Qualifier, however Irwin was stopped entering the UK due to an issue, so Ross replaced him.Maybe this is an omen and Ross will take his chance, although I think Alcinas is probably a little too strong.

Next is quite an even match on paper as Ryan Searle plays Stephen Burton. Both have played on the PDC Tour this season and both have appeared in televised competitions. Burton in particular played exceptionally well at the Players Championship finals and he looked as he may have more to give.If both play at their best,I expect Burton to edge it.

Third match sees Keegan Brown (pic) against the Czech qualifier Karel Sedlacek. Brown has made the latter stages of some big events this year and is gaining valuable experience all the time. He may not be improving as quickly as some may have thought since his World Junior win in 2014, but he his still an excellent player and will be tough to beat. Sedlacek does has some form from his BDO days, and he has won tournaments in his own country this year. He also has some televised experience, representing the Czech Republic at the World Cup of Darts. I think Brown will be too good though, although I don't expect a whitewash.

The final game of the evening see Michael van Gerwen versus Alan Tabern. This should be a relatively straightforward match for van Gerwen, however if he is not at his best, Tabern does have the game to punish him. Tabern would need to throw around a 100 average to stand any chance, I think, but you never know. It will certainly be interesting to see how van Gerwen plays and what message he may send out to his rivals.

My tip for the evening is Stephen Burton to beat Ryan Searle at Evns, although you could double it and add Keegan Brown at 1/7 just to boost the odds a little!
